Well, it's pretty aint' it? I love Elm, both as a tree and a wood. I feel the same way about Black Walnut, so I thought it best to slap a thick chunk on the bell. The mouthpiece is Padauk, Birch, and Cocobolo. Yum.
I enjoy the grain in Elm and did not want to obscure it with a heavy finish, so I choose a thinned coat of Poly for the exterior. I also wanted this didj to be gravelly voiced and gritty, so the bore is highly textured with a thin coat of Epoxy.
The result is a stick with clarity when needed, but a marked tendency for the fuzzy side of the tracks. If you are looking for a strong didgeridoo with a bit less brightness of tone, you may have just found her!
The tree that supplied the blank for this stick is still standing in our neighbors yard. Grown and crafted with love here in Portland, the stick is 5 feet long with a 5.5 inch bell. Want it? Need it? Want to talk about needing it? Let me know!
